"Kings of Leon"

On the subject of Music

There are bands where, their music sounds good on the CD, but when it comes to performing live, you realize that they aren’t as talented as they sound on the CD. Well, you’ll be glad to know that I’m not blogging about this particular brand of bands (which I now commonly refer to as “studio” bands) I’m going to be blogging about the one and only Kings of Leon.  The Kings of Leon are everything in one package, not only do they sound great on their CD’s, but they also give an amazing live performance.

I’ve been to two of the Kings of Leon concerts, and both times I’ve come out the same way: wanting more, half deaf, and with a sore throat from all the “singing”, more like screaming my lungs out to all of their great songs.

The first time I went to one of their concerts I got to meet all of them. They are actually very nice, down-to-earth guys. They not only take pictures with their fans, but they also take a minute to talk with them. While I was there I overheard a conversation that Caleb (lead singer of the band) had with one of their fans, the guy actually told Caleb that the Kings of Leon were he’s 2nd favorite band, Caleb just smiled and then asked him, “So who’s your number one?” the fan answered, “The Strokes” , Caleb jokingly smirked and then said, “ Nah they’re cool guys”. When they finally got to me all I could do was smile really big and asked them if they could take a picture with me.

The Kings of Leon are truly one of the best bands out there; with their great looks, unique sound, and catchy tunes they have made my top list of great bands.

Don’t forget to go pick up their new CD “Only by the night” releasing September 23, 2008.

"Kayaking in Georgetown"

On the subject of Uncategorized

The moment you cross Key Bridge from Virginia to Georgetown the first thing that catches your eyes is all the boats, yachts and of course the kayaking spread all along the Potomac River. So of course since the moment I moved to DC kayaking was automatically added to my “to do list”. Andy searched on-line for a place that rents kayaks, we found Jack’s Boathouse. On that Saturday we head to Jack’s, it’s a small cabin next to Key Bridge and right on Potomac River. As soon as you go down the stairs you are greeted by the nice staff.

The prices for the rentals are quite reasonable, $10 per person and the first hour, $10 an extra hour, and $35 for the whole day. You can choose whether you want a canoe, kayak, or a double kayak.

At first we decided to share a kayak, as soon as we started rowing we both knew that it wasn’t a great idea sharing a kayak because we kept rowing in circles and the current of the river was pretty strong that day so it kept pulling us to the center of the river. Finally as we both just stood there in the middle of the lake exhausted we decided that one of us should rowed back to Jack’s so we can both get a separate kayak. Once we both got in our separate kayaks we were great. Next time I know to GET MY OWN KAYAK!!! I learned my lesson.

"An oasis in the middle of DC"

On the subject of Uncategorized

As I made my way back from the store I decided to take a quick drive around my neighborhood which consists of Embassy’s, large apartment’s buildings, and large condos. To my surprise in the middle of all this I found Glover Park Community garden. As soon I stepped inside I got this feeling as I was for a mere second somewhere else other than DC. The smell of the mint herbs and other vegetables suddenly surrounded me. As I Looked around I could see all the different kind of flowers and vegetation such as poppies, roses, larkspur, clematis, sunflowers, dahlias, lettuce, spinach, raspberries, tomatoes just to mention a few of the many things growing in this garden. When I got home I was still curious to know more about this “oasis” in the middle of the city, so I got my handy, dandy laptop and searched away.

I found out that the Grover Park garden has actually been there since WWII. You see back in WWII the US need to have as much metal as possible so that it could make things such as guns, bombs and other war materials. So they couldn’t afford to waste any metal not even to make the smallest house items such as “cans”. So they started encouraging everyone to make a garden in which they can grow their own vegetables and fruits so that it could help with the food shortage and to save metal to use in the war as well. They called these gardens “Victory gardens”. Grover Park garden its one of the few Victory garden left in the US. Nowadays people from the Grover Park community are the ones who still take care of the garden. I even read that one of the plots of the garden goes to the Saint Luke shelter for the homeless. No pesticides are used to grow the garden which makes it 100% organic. So the next time that you are somewhere near 42 ST and Tunlaw RD go and see the Grover Park garden and escape the crazy city for a moment.

"MySpace Rehab"

On the subject of Uncategorized

I’m back to MySpace rehab, which means no more MySpace for a while, which I’m hoping a “while” means forever and hoping that I don’t end up having a relapse. MySpace can be a nasty addiction such as being addicted to cocaine, or being an alcoholic. YES people it’s that bad! It’s sad to know that millions of people spend hours in MySpace putting up comments and posting pictures of themselves making faces and looking like idiots, I’m not going to lie I was one of those idiots myself.

So you’re maybe wondering how in the world did I get the courage to finally face up to the ugly addictive monster called MySpace, well, to be completely honest I’ve been meaning to cancel my account for months. I even went to my account and pressed the “cancel account” once the second time MySpace asked me if I wanted to cancel I cowardly pressed NO. GOD they make it so hard for you to get rid of it… Its like MySpace is the addiction (e.g. Alcohol) and Tom is the bad friend that drinks around you when he knows that its taking everything that you have to not take that one sip because that’s all it takes. Why Tom you ask? Well he was the genius (and YES he is a genius! He’s billionaire out of a system where people talk to each other and get to add their pictures on line!!!!! that’s all I’m going to say about that if you get it congratulations if you don’t too bad) well back to my whole Tom is the bad guy explanation ok he’s also the genius behind the system of MySpace so that makes him the one that came up with the pop up that asks you numerous times if you “really” want to cancel your account and makes it even harder to let go… OK OK so maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but why? Could it be that I’m going to miss my hundred’s of friends with their funny names and so call “cool” quotes? NAH I don’t think so!!! Ladies and Gentlemen it would be my honor to present to you all this wonderful invention it’s called THE TELEPHONE, or CELL PHONE it’s a wonderful machine that comes in different shapes, sizes and colors. All you have to do is press 10 numbers 7 if you live in a place were you don’t need an area code.

BUT WAIT! I’m not done. Then hold the phone to your ear and you will hear a voice of the person you desired to call (in MySpace terms they are called: Top Friends) that’s right! It’s that easy to find out how your friends are without the use of MySpace.

So people please stop wasting your precious time on a page with a  “cool” layout and start taking long walks, learn a new language, start a new website (hint, hint) I don’t know just do something productive that at the end you can see some kind of achievement.
